Born and raised in the GDR, he quickly showed what an independent spirit he is, which even earned him a Stasi detention. After the fall of the Wall, he took advantage of the new freedom and became a globetrotter. He studied in Aachen, Munich and later in California. Back in Germany, he opened a design studio in Munich with a branch in Venice. His professional travels took Kelley around the world from the Czech Republic, to Bulgaria, Greece, Portugal, the USA and Japan. His design is unpretentious, thoughtful, functional and modern. A prime example of this is the "Kelley Chair" at jankurtz. How does he see himself? Somewhere between painter, poet, writer, designer and architect. A multi-talent at home in all cultures of the world.
